Students considering transfer to the B.Arch program at The University of Arizona should carefully review the following information.
While some required general education and elective coursework may be completed at community colleges, the length of our program and sequencing of the curriculum require at least ten semesters of work at The University of Arizona. With very few exceptions, a student must be enrolled in the School's pre-architecture year and complete the ARC 101 and ARC 102 Foundation Studios in order to be eligible for admission to the professional phase of the B.Arch program. It will therefore take most community college students longer than the standard five years to receive their professional architecture degree.
Students planning to attend community college as a preparatory step toward transfer to The University of Arizona can begin to fulfill a number of the required and elective courses. The following are strongly recommended:
Students who complete a basic first year of courses, a mini-AGEC, or a complete AGEC at a community college may find themselves better prepared for the rigorous curriculum in the School of Architecture. However, an additional five years of coursework at the UA will be required to obtain the B.Arch degree. Although this path can be lengthy, it will result in a lighter course load per semester.
