Hierarchy
|
The premise of the aesthetic concept of hierarchy is that certain architectural spaces or forms are more important than others. The value of a space or form is defined by the culture. Francis D. K. Ching, in his "Form, Space and Order" defines three ways in which forms can achieve hierarchical prominence; through being the exception to the norm in either, location, unique shape, or exceptional size. A fourth tool for creating hierarchy is the relative level of articulation or detail.
